Another Paper Rose Project

I have posted several times about these gorgeous paper roses. As always I am going to send you back to Wendy's tutorial to give credit where credit is due. (I don't draw the pattern, I just freehand cut it.)

This year in school I am teaching a short crafts homeroom class a couple times per week. I taught my students how to make the flowers and they loved them! It was so fun to see their creativity.

One girl made this adorable flower and put it on a headband. I just had to take pictures to show you!

The flower is made from junk mail. What a great way to recycle!
I think it is a Carl's Jr. ad.
The colors are so fun!

Obviously, this headband is going to be ruined in the first rainstorm it encounters, but the idea of pretty junk mail flowers can be applied to so many things.

Here are my other paper rose projects:

Living Room Makeover

My Internet was down and I missed What I Wore Wednesday. Rather than do it late, I will just save the outfit pics until next Wednesday.

Today I am going to share with you my living room makeover. It has been 2 years in the process and now it is 100% done!

The previous owners had decorated the room like this:

Not only was it not my style, but we wanted to make our house OUR house. I didn't want to feel that I had moved into someone else's home.

We started by painting the walls a light tan color and replacing the carpet. We added our furniture and decor. Several months later we added the orange wall (LOVE it!) and the tile entry way.

This summer we changed up some of the decor, starting with this wall collage.

I love how it turned out. I cut papers the same sizes as the frames and hung them on the wall with painter's tape to make sure I liked the arrangement before putting nail holes in the wall. I took a picture of this process but I can't find it, sorry.

This is what it looks like over the couch. Before it was just the mirror, the large painting, and a wreath. This really adds some color to the room and makes it a little more modern.

All of the photos (besides the wedding ones, of course) were taken by me.

The frames are all cheap ones from Walmart and I shopped around for deals on matching art.

I really love the orange wall.

Orange and green were our wedding colors so I used them for decorating colors too. I was able to reuse many things including the beautiful floral arrangement below.

I bought this corner shelf at Ikea for pretty cheap (I think $20 but I am not sure).

The end table is also from Ikea ($20- we also have 2 for nightstands in the bedroom).

The couch is a hand-me-down from my grandma. When we first got it we put a slipcover on that matched the other couch. I took it off to wash it and decided we liked the whimsy the uncovered couch added to the room. What do you think?

How could I forget the tile? All carpet and tile work done by my husband. His family owns a flooring company. If you are in the Utah or Salt Lake county areas and are in need of some floor work or repair let me know I will get you his contact info! (I will be showing a wood floor and bathroom tile floor soon, too!)

If you have been thinking of going bold with the paint- DO IT! You can always paint over it if you want. I LOVE it. Click HERE to see my bright red retro family room!

Have a great day!

Simple Soda Cracker Pizzas

I recently was craving pizza but did not want to go buy one or make a crust. Instead I made these simple pizzas using soda crackers as the crust.
This would be a great snack that the kids could even make themselves.
Ingredients:
Soda crackers
Pasta or pizza sauce
Mozzarella cheese
Pepperoni or other toppings

Arrange the crackers on a plate. Put a drop of sauce on each cracker.

Sprinkle each cracker with cheese.

Put a slice of pepperoni on each cracker.

Microwave for 30 seconds and viola! Pizza!

Enjoy! Happy Saturday!

Refashion #8 Yellow Flowers Tee Tutorial

I recently purchased some discounted t-shirts for more refashions. I only purchased one of the peach colored shirts and made the lace tee, but I bought two yellow shirts to make a tone-on-tone shirt. When I sat down to make the shirt I was at a loss of what to do. Then I remembered this fabulous shirt I had seen on Welcome to the Good Life. I LOVED Sarah's shirt and even had a similar color so I made a similar shirt.

Have you seen Welcome to the Good Life? Sarah has some beautiful shirt refashions and even has a clothing shop called S.T. Collection. Check it out!!

Anyway... I did not take step by step photos of the process because it was pretty simple but I have written directions below.

1. Purchase two shirts of the same color.
2. Cut 1" strips from one shirt the length of the shirt you are going to wear. (I did 7.)
3. Pin the strips vertically on the shirt, and then sew them on with a straight stitch on a machine.
4. Cut more 1" strips to roll up and make a flower. I used 2 strips for each flower. Roll them up to make the rosettes. Sew the flower together after it's rolled.
5. Sew the rosettes on the shirt.

I actually sewed this entire shirt. I didn't use even one drop of glue! That is a first for me!

Thanks Sarah for the inspiration and great idea!

YB on Martha Stewart?!?

This past week I have been in contact with a producer of the crafts segment on Martha Stewart!!! She asked me to submit my Anthro inspired blouse for consideration to be on the show. At the end of September they are doing an episode featuring teachers who are also crafters and they wanted me!!!!

Unfortunately, Martha doesn't pay for transportation for accommodations for her guests. It was going to be very expensive to fly from Utah to NYC and I would have to take time off work.
After considering the cost, my goals and values, and what is going on in my life right now, I decided that going to the show would not be the right choice. And I don't regret it. But I am flattered and thrilled to pieces that I was even asked. WOW!!! Who would've thought?!
It has been suggested to me by friends that I submit the shirt to one of the local TV shows telling them that it was supposed to be on The Martha Stewart Show but they could feature me instead.

What I Wore Wednesday

Click HERE to enter the lace flower pin giveaway!!
For awhile now I have been checking out "What I Wore Wednesday" over at the Pleated Poppy blog. I am a little obsessed with shopping and clothes and thought it looked like fun. I decided to try it out. The outfites go backwards from yesterday. (So I was spacey and forgot at the end of the week, not the beginning.)
When I look at these posts I always find cute clothes and wonder if the item is something I would be able to purchase. For this reason I have written in red all items that I purchased recently enough that I think you could still find it in the store. Drop me a line if you have questions.
Here goes nothing! Remember that I am a teacher and I have to dress according my school dress code.
Tuesday
I wore the same thing that I wore to the fashion show (and yes even used the same picture).
Cardigan- Old Navy
Pants- Maurices (I lied before when I said Wet Seal)
Shoes- Payless
Lace cami- Downeast Basics

Monday
I forgot to take a picture. But click HERE to see the cardigan I wore from Target. It says out of stock but if you hurry in you might be able to find one in stores. I just bought it 2 weeks ago (and it didn't cost that much). I wore it with a purple shirt underneath, black skinny pants and gray flats.

Sunday

I didn't get a picture of my outift for church but if you click HERE and scroll down to the bottom picture you can see what I wore. The dress and cardi are from Target and the shoes are from Payless.
You'll also get to see a rare picture of my face. I usually crop it out because I have a funny look on my face!

Saturday

Shirt: Forver 21 $15
Capris: Aeropostale
Wedges: Target
Belt: from a JC Penny shirt/belt combo

My necklace was too long so I tied it in a knot to make a shorter 'Y' necklace.

Friday Shirt: Target
Cardigan: Target, $15
Capris: I can't remember
Wedges: Cupid brand from Forever Young Shoes
Necklace: Yellow Blackbird!

Thursday
White blouse: a gift, Express
Pearl necklace: a gift, Target
Belt: Came on another skirt I bought a long time ago
Skirt: Bought a long time ago, forgot
Shoes: a gift, Coldwater Creek

(So this outfit was virtually free!)

Wednesday

First day of school!
Dress: $12, Ross
Cardi: $15, Target
Shoes: a gift, Steve Madden

After I took the picture I switched to this necklace, $8, Charlotte Russe. Don't mind the hairs all over my shirt. I had just finished doing my hair and hadn't cleaned them off yet. : )

Poppy

Well, that was fun. What do you think? Are my clothes even remotely interesting to look at? Should I do this again? Did you have a favorite outfit?
